One Year After Eaton: Loving What We Lost

Updated: 17 hours ago

Many people are going to vigils to mark the one year anniversary of the Eaton Fire. This is a digital equivalent for people who have left the area, won't be around this week, or can't attend because of health issues. After a fellow survivor mentioned that she had a conversation with someone who called us "the Altadena diaspora," it all clicked for me. Whether you are near or far, Altadena is in our hearts. Our town isn't just the site of unprecedented destruction: we have beautiful memories there that deserve to be honored alongside mourning the terrifying losses, too. Below, there are photos and snippets of stories from folks in the Altadena diaspora in honor of the one-year anniversary of the Eaton Fire. Submissions after the anniversary are welcome as well, this will be updated on a rolling basis. These are the stories of Altadena past and present - visions that are lovely, devastating, and everything in between.
